Quebec files injunction against Energy East pipeline
The Quebec government and a coalition of environmental groups are taking legal action against TransCanada for ignoring the province's environmental regulations. Quebec's environmental minister sent 2 letters to TransCanada informing the company that Quebec requires special considerations for the portion that comes through the province.
The TransCanada pipeline is federal jurisdiction and not normally subject to additional provincial reviews. Public hearings for Energy East are set to begin March 7. Final approval from the federal government is due July 2018. The pipeline would carry 1.1 million bbl/day of oil from Alberta to New Brunswick.
TransCanada responded they will address all issues raised in the provincial assessment.
