Alberta sets up yet another advisory committee to diversify the economy
The Energy Diversification Advisory Committee will advise the government on topics such as bitumen upgrading and building new petrochemical plants. Committee members were not named and no timeline was given for final recommendations. The announcement was made during the government's throne speech, which also announced plans to spend C$34 billion in infrastructure over the next 5 years and establish a C$3 billion carbon tax by 2017.
The government also is setting up a new Energy Efficiency Alberta agency to help taxpayers reduce energy consumption to minimize impending increases in electricity and gas prices.
