Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending June 16, 2017:

  • Commercial crude oil inventories declined 2.5 million barrels, seen mostly in the Midwest region.
  • Cushing saw a drawdown of 1.1 million barrels. Another 783,000 barrels of crude were sold out of Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR).
  • Gasoline inventories declined 578,000 barrels but distillate stockpiles rose by over 1 million barrels. The EIA reported a 1.5 million bbl/day jump in products consumed last week, topping 21 million bbl/day.
  • Crude oil production rose another 20,000 bbl/day last week. Output from the Lower 48 increased 25,000 bbl/day while production from Alaska fell 5,000 bbl/day.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) had predicted a crude oil drawdown of 2.7 million barrels.
