Weekly US Oil Inventory Report

Weekly US Oil Inventory Report

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending January 19, 2018:
  • US commercial crude oil inventories declined almost 1.1 million barrels, including a 3.2 million barrel drawdown at the Cushing tank farm. Most other PADDs reported increases with the largest build seen in the Gulf Coast (+2.3 million barrels).
  • Crude production rose by 128,000 bbl/day to 9.88 million bbl/day, a new record high. Exports increased another 13% to 1.4 million bbl/day while imports rose slightly to 8.0 million bbl/day. Imports of Canadian crude dropped 580,000 bbl/day to 3.0 million bbl/day.
  • Refinery utilization continues to drop from a high of almost 97% a few weeks ago to almost 91% last week. West Coast refineries declined the most, falling from 96.9% to 88.6%, while East Coast utilization rates improved from 81% to 90%.
  • Gasoline inventories continue to rise, adding another 3.1 million barrels, despite a 4% decline in production, falling to 9.4 million bbl/day. This is the 11th consecutive weekly build in gasoline stockpiles, now up 35 million barrels from last October.
  • Distillate inventories also rose by 639,000 barrels, giving back some of the declines of the previous week.
