Kinder Morgan wraps up TMEP hearings in Vancouver
A Vancouver court has wrapped up hearings on the TransMountain Expansion Pipeline (TMEP) this week.
Nine litigation teams representing several special interest groups, First Nations peoples, the cities of Vancouver and Burnaby, as well as the BC government launched a judicial appeal against the federal government's approval of TMEP earlier this year. Lawyers for Alberta’s attorney general told the judges that Ottawa’s decision to approve the project was based on a broad base of evidence.
The courts do not have a deadline for rendering a decision although construction on the expansion has already begun on public lands. Judges took about eight months to overturn Northern Gateway's federal approval.
Regardless of the outcome, the decision is expected to go to appeals court.
