Weekly US Oil Inventory Report

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending February 2, 2018:
  • US commercial crude oil inventories increased almost 1.9 million barrels, with the largest gains seen in the Gulf Coast (+4.8 million). The Cushing tank farm in Oklahoma saw a drawdown of 711,000 barrels.
  • Crude production was revised higher by 332,000 bbl/day, inline with the EIA's recent revisions to its monthly production estimates. Total crude output is now pegged at a record 10.25 million bbl/day, excluding condensate and NGLs.
  • Crude exports dipped 27% to 1.3 million bbl/day while imports also fell 6% to 7.9 million bbl/day. Imports of Canadian crude increased by 137,000 bbl/day last week to 3.6 million bbl/day.
  • Refinery throughput rose to 16.8 million bbl/day as refinery utilization rebounded to 92.5% from a low of 88% the previous week.
  • Gasoline production rose to 10.1 million bbl/day while consumption ticked up to 9.1 million bbl/day. After easing slightly last week, gasoline stockpiles continue their upward climb, gaining another 3.4 million barrels.
  • Distillate production increased 11% to 5.1 million bbl/day while consumption dropped by 16% to 3.8 million bbl/day. Distillate inventories also rose another 3.9 million barrels despite a large drop in exports.
