Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending May 11, 2018:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories declined 1.4 million barrels, with the largest drawdowns seen on the East Coast (PADD 1) and Gulf Coast (PADD 3), down 2.4 million and 1.5 million barrels, respectively. Stockpiles at Cushing were roughly unchanged last week.
  • 1.5 million barrels of crude were reported removed from Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) last week.
  • Refinery throughput increased to 16.6 million bbl/day as refinery utilization rose back up to 91.1%, erasing losses from last week. PADD 2 refineries in the Midwest are running at almost 99% of capacity while run rates in the Gulf Coast declined again last week, falling to 89.1%.
  • Total crude production ticked slightly higher, rising 20,000 bbl/day to 10.72 million bbl/day.
  • Crude imports rose 4% to 7.6 million bbl/day while exports jumped 37% to a record 2.6 million bbl/day.
  • Imports of Canadian crude dipped 5% to 3.5 million bbl/day.
  • Gasoline stockpiles declined 3.8 million barrels last week. Production increased 5% to 10.5 million bbl/day. Imports declined 10% to 721,000 bbl/day while exports rose 59% to 925,000 bbl/day.
  • Distillate production, consumption and stockpiles were roughly unchanged last week. Exports dropped 34% to 899,000 bbl/day.
  • Total stockpiles of crude and petroleum products declined 5.3 million barrels.
