Weekly US Oil Inventory Report

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending Jun 1, 2018:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories increased 2.1 million barrels last week, blamed mostly on a 2.5 million barrel rise on the West Coast (PADD 5). Stockpiles at Cushing fell 955,000 barrels.
  • Another 609,000 barrels of crude were reported removed from Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR), bringing the 4-week total drawdown to over 3 million barrels.
  • Refinery runs rose to 17.4 million bbl/day as refinery utilization increased to 95.4%. Gains were seen across all regions except the East Coast (PADD 1). Refineries in the Midwest region (PADD 2) reported operating at 101% of capacity.
  • The Lower 48 region added another 35,000 bbl/day of production, bringing total US production to a new record high of 10.8 million bbl/day. Output from Alaska dipped 2,000 bbl/day.
  • Crude imports rose 9% to 8.3 million bbl/day while exports dropped 21% to 1.7 million bbl/day. Imports of Canadian crude increased 6% to 3.6 million bbl/day.
  • Gasoline consumptions dropped 7% to 9.0 million bbl/day while production declined 7% to 9.7 million bbl/day. Imports and exports both declined about 20%. Gasoline stockpiles rose 4.6 million barrels last week, the third consecutive weekly increase.
  • Distillate stockpiles also gained 2.2 million barrels as exports rose 48% to 1.7 million bbl/day while exports dipped 18% to 538,000 bbl/day. Production increased to 5.3 million bbl/day.
