Crude stockpiles rise over 5 million barrels, returning to the highs of late 2017

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending April 19, 2019:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories rose by 5.5 million barrels last week, with the largest increases seen on the East Coast (PADD 1) and Gulf Coast (PADD 3).
  • Stockpiles at the Cushing storage terminal, included in PADD 2 figures, rose by 463,000 barrels.
  • Total US crude production ticked up 100,000 bbl/day, to 12.2 million bbl/day.
  • Crude exports rose 12% to 2.7 million bbl/day, while imports rebounded 19% to 7.1 million bbl/day.
  • Imports of Canadian crude also jumped 8% to 3.7 million bbl/day.
  • Overall US refinery utilization recovered to over 90% last week. All PADDs reported increases except the Midwest, which dipped to 92%.
  • Gasoline inventories declined 2.1 million barrels, a tenth consecutive week of drawdowns. Distillate stockpiles also fell 662,000 barrels.
  • Overall consumption of petroleum products rose 3% to 20.4 million bbl/day.
