Crude stockpiles continue to fall south of the border

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending September 6, 2019:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories declined by almost 7 million barrels last week. Most of the declines were on the Gulf Coast and West Coast, which both saw a drop of about 2.5 million barrels. The Cushing storage hub also saw a drop of 798,000 barrels.
  • Total US crude output held steady at 12.4 million bbl/day.
  • Crude exports increased almost 8% to 3.3 million bbl/day, while imports declined almost 3% to 6.7 million bbl/day.
  • Imports of Canadian crude also fell 244,000 bbl/day, ending the week at an estimated 3.4 million bbl/day.
  • Refinery utilization was reported at 95.1% last week.
  • Gasoline inventories declined about 682,000 barrels, while distillate inventories increased 2.7 million barrels.
  • Total consumption of petroleum products slid 1%, to end the week at an estimated 21.4 million bbl/day.
