Crude stockpiles move higher for the first time in 5-weeks

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending September 13, 2019:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories rose by 1.1 million barrels last week, with the largest gains seen in the Gulf Coast. All PADDs saw increases except for the Midwest region, where stockpiles declined by 2.1 million barrels. The Cushing storage hub saw a drop of 647,000 barrels.
  • Total US crude output was reported unchanged for the third week in a row, at 12.4 million bbl/day.
  • Crude exports decreased almost 4% to 3.2 million bbl/day, while imports rose almost 5% to 7.1 million bbl/day. Averaged over the past 4-weeks, net imports reached a new record low of 3.5 million bbl/day.
  • Imports of Canadian crude also rose by 79,000 bbl/day last week, ending the week at an estimated 3.5 million bbl/day.
  • Refinery utilization dropped to 91.2% last week. All PADDs reported declines except the Rocky Mountains region (PADD 4).
  • Gasoline inventories rose 781,000 barrels, while distillate stockpiles increased 437,000 barrels.
  • Total consumption of petroleum products slid 5%, to an estimated 20.3 million bbl/day last week.
