Crude inventories continue to trend lower, as stockpiles fall for third week in a row

Summary of this week's US Petroleum Status Report for the week ending August 30, 2019:
  • Commercial crude oil inventories unexpectedly dropped by 4.8 million barrels last week. Most of the declines seen in the Gulf Coast, which saw a 3.6 million barrel drawdown. The Cushing storage hub also saw a drop of 230,000 barrels.
  • Total US crude output dipped 100,000 bbl/day to 12.4 million bbl/day.
  • Crude exports were little moved at 3.1 million bbl/day, while imports rose almost 1 million bbl/day to 6.9 million bbl/day.
  • Imports of Canadian crude rebounded 447,000 bbl/day, ending the week at an estimated 3.65 million bbl/day.
  • Refinery utilization was reported little changed at 94.8% last week.
  • Gasoline and distillate inventories each declined about 2.5 million barrels.
  • Total consumption of petroleum products slid 3%, to end the week at an estimated 21.6 million bbl/day.
